Edmonton, Alberta — Communications & Digital Media
Social media management, video, and communications for Edmonton nonprofits, campaigns, and small businesses. We meet people where they are, and tell stories that matter.
About
Calan Hobbs is an Edmonton-based communications, digital media, and public engagement practice focused on helping local businesses, nonprofits, and campaigns tell stories that matter.
Through social media, photography, video, and community engagement strategies, the work centers on meeting people where they are, and telling stories they can see themselves in.
“To help organizations tell compelling stories that reflect their work and the people behind it, connecting with audiences in a way that is clear, human, and meaningful.”
Calan Hobbs, founder
Who You’re Working With
Before this was a communications practice, it was a career in hospitality. Calan spent years as a hotel concierge in Edmonton, including at the Delta Edmonton Centre and with Fairmont Hotels & Resorts, and earned membership in Les Clefs d’Or, the international society of hotel concierges whose members are recognised by the crossed golden keys on their lapel. Fewer than a hundred concierges in Canada hold them.
It is not an obvious route into communications, but it is a direct one. The job was working out what someone actually needed when what they asked for was something else, then delivering it without fuss. That is most of this job too.
In 2023 Calan stood as the Alberta NDP candidate in Fort McMurray–Lac La Biche, completing the party’s full slate of 87 candidates. Running a campaign in a riding you are not expected to win teaches you how to talk to people who do not already agree with you, on a budget, with a deadline that does not move. That experience now sits behind the campaign and advocacy work.
Today the practice serves constituency offices, nonprofits, and small local businesses across the Edmonton region, alongside video work with a small trusted crew.
Services
Four areas of work, one through-line: honest stories, told well.
01
Consistent, purposeful content that builds a real presence. Strategy, creation, and day-to-day management rooted in showing up for the people you serve, not chasing algorithms.

02
Images that capture the real work happening in your organization. Not polished stock photos, but honest, human moments that connect with your audience.

03
Storytelling through video that puts people and purpose first, from short-form social content to longer pieces that reveal the work behind the work.

04
Strategies built around real relationships, helping organizations connect with the communities right in front of them through clear, accessible, meaningful communication.

What We Believe
These aren't aspirational statements. They're the principles that shape every project, every story, and every conversation.
01
Behind every post, project, or campaign are people doing real work. That work deserves to be seen, respected, and accurately represented.
02
The goal isn't to create noise, but to tell stories that are honest, grounded, and meaningful.
03
Strong communities are built locally. The work focuses on helping organizations connect with the people right in front of them.
04
Good communication should be easy to understand and accessible to the people it's meant for.
Where We’re Headed
A future where communication doesn’t obscure the work, but reveals it — making the people, effort, and ideas behind organizations impossible to overlook.
Common Questions
Three monthly social media packages start from $500, $1,000 and $1,500 per month in CAD before GST. Those are starting points, not fixed prices. Every engagement is scoped around what your organization actually needs, and you get a written scope and a fixed quote before anything begins. Corporate video, wedding films, and campaign strategy are priced separately.
Yes — nonprofits, advocacy organizations, constituency offices, and community campaigns are a core part of the practice, alongside small local business. If your work depends on people understanding what you actually do, that's the sweet spot.
Based in Edmonton, Alberta, working with organizations across the Edmonton region and throughout Alberta. Strategy and content work can happen remotely anywhere in Canada; in-person photo and video shoots are concentrated in the Edmonton area.
Monthly social packages are set up as a three-month minimum. That isn't a lock-in tactic. Building a content rhythm and seeing whether it's working genuinely takes longer than a few weeks. Project work like video and photography has no ongoing commitment.
Twenty minutes, free, no pitch deck. We cover what your organization is working on, where communication is getting stuck, and whether this is a good fit. If it is, you get a written scope and fixed quote before anything starts. If it isn't, you'll get an honest answer and, where possible, a pointer to someone better suited.
Calan Hobbs directly, for strategy, content, and day-to-day management. Video projects bring in a trusted production collaborator and crew, and you'll know exactly who is on site before the shoot.
